Architect Ayesha Sadaf helms ARA Urban Studio, a boutique architectural and interior design studio based in Bangalore. She believes in creating innovative, tailor-made design solutions to cater to the needs and aspirations of her client and she shares five ways in which you too can create a bedroom that has a designer touch to it:

1. Keep it classy

It is now more than away that people are turning to classic colour combinations and material palettes to create that perfect bedroom. Tone on tone or monochromatic bedrooms have always been loved, and this trend continues to dominate. Be it shades of brown and off whites to create a truly relaxing bedroom or a bedroom with shades of maroon paired with gold accents and blacks, classic combinations are time tested and make their presence felt once again.

2. Make way for nature

Nothing is quite as beautiful as waking up with nature around! Be it large windows that give you a peek at the canopy of trees outside your room or simply adding potted plants that are easy to maintain, into our living spaces, especially bedrooms is a big trend today.  While the plants themselves refresh the space and make it look livelier, choosing minimalistic pots or pots with unique designs will further aid in enhancing the décor of your space. You can also opt for earthy wooden finishes with hints of green, burnt orange or other earthy colours to make your space look serene and relaxing.

3. Create seating in your bedroom

While bedrooms are essentially meant to be spaces where one rests, today, we seek more from the space and thus, it is important to add seating in your bedroom. Be it a study nook, a futon or a rocking chair- you need to add some seating solution in order to create a space where one can just relax without necessarily laying down. It could be to catch some reading time, or to simply sit down and write about your day- you surely need a seating area irrespective how big or small it is.

Apart from this, study tables and home offices are making a big comeback owing to the change in our lifestyle and the same must be accommodated in your home. Not many may have the luxury to have a dedicated study room, thus, it is important to create a sleek study area that is elegant and functional. Ditch the bulky looking study tables, and instead, choose something sleeker and simpler paired with a comfortable seat to enhance the functionality of your bedroom.

4. Ceiling design

When we talk about ceiling design, we do not mean those rings of false ceiling! You can create laminated panels on your ceiling or create levels and have a mix of textures to add more drama to your space without looking tacky. This is a great way to give your bedroom a designer look without burning a hole in your pocket. Opt for natural wooden grains or matte plain laminates on your ceiling to further enhance the look of your room. Remember to keep everything else minimalistic and subtle in order to ensure that your space retains the charm and still offers a peaceful resting space.

5. Lights pave the way!

No design is complete without the right addition of lights. Having a balanced mix of task lighting, accent lighting and ambient lighting is crucial to create a beautiful bedroom design. While it is ideal to have soft, mellow light in your bedroom, areas like the dressing area, study table etc require task lighting to make the space look more functional. Layer the lighting and give the inhabitants the choice to choose the different ambiances they want to create based on their requirement. Don’t forget to add lights inside wardrobes and ample lights in the dressing area to make the process of dressing easy and hassle-free!

Your bedroom is your private sanctuary and it should not only reflect your style, but it should also help create a space that is relaxing and comforting. Having a balance of colours, textures and patterns and creating pockets of unique experiences will help you create a bedroom that is straight out of your dreams.
